Can $60 Cream Cure 'Turkey Neck?'
Over-The-Counter Product Claims
To Tighten Saggy Skin
By Stephany Fisher, CBS Atlanta Anchor
ATLANTA -- It's a common sign of aging for many women:
"You start to get this little jiggle," said one woman as she pointed to the loose, sagging skin on her neck and under her chin.
Some call it the turkey neck.
But a local plastic surgeon is raving about a cream called Nectifirm, that she claims can tighten and smooth the skin, and it doesn't require a prescription.
"It's very unusual to find a topical cream that's not prescription that actually does what it says it's going to do," said Dr. Theresa Jarmuz.
According to its makers, Revision Skincare, Nectifirm has eight active ingredients, including a plant product that's intended to dissolve fat.
"We do see improvement in the little bulge, the double chin in peoples' necks," said Jarmuz.
The cream sells for $60 a jar and users say it's worth every penny.
"I was starting to feel a little obscure, getting older and not quite as noticed and all the sudden I starting getting a little attention," said Kama Swartz.
Swartz was considering plastic surgery, but instead, Dr. Jarmuz suggested a combination of Nectifirm and an injectable collagen stimulator, called Sculptra, to plump her cheek bones.
"Anytime we can find something that puts off surgery, it's better," said Jarmuz.
Jarmuz added that many women waste far too much money on products that don't work and they often turn to lasers or surgery when topicals work just as well.
Nectifirm did the trick for Jan Ferguson.
"Now, since it's worked so well on my neck, I've been putting it on my arms," Ferguson said.
"We all want to look our best," said Swartz. "As long as I can do that without having to go under the knife, that's exciting."
